  25.     Thanks, you, for the anti-aliasing suggestion.  My manual makes 
  26. no reference to this, at least with any relation to clip-mapping.  
  27.  
  28.     And excuse the unspecific nature of my query.  But I can't get
  29. clip-mapping to work at all. 
  30.  
  31.     I have a simple plane, sitting vertically in front of the camera, 
  32. like a movie screen.  Onto this, I'm mapping a pic that has a figure in 
  33. the center, with black, color 0, all around it.  My assumption with 
  34. clipmapping is that all this color 0 area should be 'removed' from the 
  35. plane onto which it's mapped, so that the figure appears to stand out 
  36. there in space.  All the background color 0 should be transparent, at 
  37. least if I understand clipmapping.  
  38.  
  39.     I start with my simple plane, with four points and four polygons. 
  40. Onto this object's surface, I map my figure-pic, a six-bit ham picture, 
  41. as a planar image map, z axis, automatic sizing, with antialiasing and 
  42. pixel blending on. 
  43.     
  44.     Then, from the objects menu, I click on Clip Map, again with the 
  45. same six-bit Ham figure-pic mapped as a planar image map, z axis, automatic 
  46. sizing and with anitaliasing and pixel blending OFF. 
  47.  
  48.     To test for transparency of my plane, I have a background pic, 
  49. that my plane sits in front of.  When I trace the picture, the plane is 
  50. fully visible as a black square, with my figure pic in the center.  The 
  51. black areas are not clipped.  It's as if the clip-map effect HAS no 
  52. effect at all, since the picture renders identically whether I have it 
  53. activated or not.

  55.     This process is such a snap in Imagine, I'm rather surprised at
  56. having so much trouble with it in this supposedly superior program.

  59. attention.  I'm sure it's something obvious that I'm failing to do.
